WELCOME!

I’m Sam – I am SO glad you have found After the Last Pound. I originally built this community because as I lost weight on my own journey I thought, “well what comes next?” and realized that if I was searching for information, others must be too. That kicked off an adventure in weight loss and then came the realization that this thing is so much more than what you do after you reach a goal. It’s about our mental health, it’s about what our cultures say to us to drive us to their version of perfection, it’s about how we eat, how we have healthy food relationships. All in all – it’s about life.

I never want to be just another weight loss blogger, and certainly not one who pushed diet and restriction. I want my food and my body to be about what I also believe the principles of mental health is about: moderation and balance. But let’s cut to the chase:

Why me? What makes me qualified to talk about this?!

I have 0 formal education regarding physical health, medical health, mental health, or fitness. What I do have, however, have experience in the school of hard knocks. I am a long time depression and anxiety warrior, with a massive depressive state from age 18-22, which left me with a lot of therapy needed, a lot of advice to give on how I got through it, and a TON of empathy.

I also lost 50 pounds in 5 months in 2017, via a weight loss system, and in 2020, kicked off another weight loss push (20 pounds as of September!) after the 2019 birth of our second child. The second weight loss is much more of what I consider to be lazy weight loss, because its slower, but its SO much better – no restriction, just balance and moderation!

Before and After I lost the weight - Change and success IS possible! #atlp @afterthelastpound

I’m married with two young daughters, and balancing my crazy bunch and my tech job is fun and chaotic and I thank the Lord for it all! I love champagne, Jesus, popcorn, and Skymall magazine, and I received an extra few doses of sass and sarcasm at birth.

I truly believe that my purpose in life is to use my experience, my past, and my empathy to serve the world and help others. If you have been looking for a sign – this is it! So join me as we head out on this journey of life and wellness and throwing all cultural norms away!!!

Lots of love,
